Custer County Foundation’s 2nd “Give 4 Custer County” kicks off today

BROKEN BOW – The Custer County Foundation’s second “GIVE 4 CUSTER COUNTY” campaign kicks off today. The event is a fundraising campaign to grow philanthropy and inspire communities to come together to give as much as possible to support the work of nonprofits in Custer County.

Donations are being accepted from June 15 through June 30.

The fundraising drive provides an additional opportunity for nonprofits to receive contributions, share their mission, and find new donors. The campaign provides an opportunity for donors to learn more about charitable organizations doing important work across Custer County.

Custer County Foundation Executive Director Lindsay Cook says that given the success of 2021’s effort, her foundation felt it would be worth doing again.

“In 2021, organizations raised over $165,000, and when you added our $50,000 matching funds, they actually raised over $200,000, so we’re excited to see what happens in 2023.”

Twenty-nine nonprofits from all fields and corners of Custer County are enrolled for the two-week push, ranging in size anywhere from area heavy hitters such as Nebraska One Box to the hyperlocal Sargent Swimming Pool.

Cook says that no matter the size of the organization, everyone has a shot at the foundation’s matching funds just by having signed up for the drive.

“The great thing about participating is that organizations become eligible for $50,000 in matching funds, as well as $2,500 in incentive prizes.”

The matching funds, Cook says, will be distributed proportionately to participating nonprofits based on the total amount raised by each organization.

“If you raise 5% of the total amount raised by all participating organizations, then you’d get 5% of the $50,000.”

Matching dollars, of course, come down to donations; Cook says that the Custer County Foundation has developed a sort of “menu” on its website, which, given its layout, should make researching each participating nonprofit a breeze.

“It’s nice because it lists all the organizations and you can read through them all, and if you’re inspired to donate to multiple organizations, you can donate right there on the website.”

The Custer County Foundation also encourages donating in the traditional fashion, by mailing or dropping checks off in person at its Broken Bow headquarters at 409 South 9th Avenue; checks should have the name of the organization in the memo line.

Additionally, organizations will be throwing fundraising events until the June 30 conclusion of the campaign to raise money to help in pursuit of matching funds.
