Adams Land and Cattle is organizing their fifth Food 4 Youth Challenge starting October 2. Liz Babcock with Adams Land and Cattle spoke to KCNI/KBBN about this years event.

“For those who are unfamiliar with it or just need refreshed on it, it’s a food drive for the backpack program and the food pantries of Custer County. And the backpack program is something that the schools facilitate to make sure that kids aren’t going hungry at the end of the night,” Babcock said.

Last year’s Food for Youth campaign collected over 5,458 snacks and meals for the Custer County backpack programs and food pantries, as well as over $3,663 in gift cards and monetary donations to support their future needs.  Adams Land and Cattle is looking forward to surpassing the amazing numbers this year with local support! They will also be having a friendly competition between organizations, schools and businesses for most collected, similar to their “Heart of Custer County Winners” in the past. The Food for Youth Challenge will start on October 2 and end  October 18. Items that are accepted are monetary donations, Grocery Kart or Gary’s Gift Cards, canned or boxed food items, and peanut butter. Checks can be made to the Custer County Foundation, specifying the “Food 4 Youth” fund. Donations will be evenly distributed between the schools and programs.

If you would like to participate, call Liz Babcock at (308) 870-2027.
