First appearances made in Custer County court following weekend arrests

CUSTER COUNTY, Neb.— Custer County Court saw first appearances made on Monday following weekend arrests.

Trevor Millsap, age 20 of Broken Bow, was in court facing a class IV felony charge of theft by unlawful taking in an amount between $1,500 and $4,999 after being arrested this past weekend.

Millsap is accused of taking books of lottery scratch tickets with a total value of around $3,000 while employed at the Pump & Pantry location in Broken Bow. Winning tickets from the missing books were stated to have winnings redeemed later at locations across the area including Grand Island, Kearney, Broken Bow, and Sargent either by Millsap or others.

Judge Tami Schendt set a personal recognizance (PR) bond at $1,000 and appointed a public defender for Millsap, who was ordered to appear on July 6 for a preliminary hearing.

Joseph Ward, age 44 of Springview, was also in court for a first appearance, facing a class II felony charge of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) after being arrested this past weekend. That charge was amended to be class IV possession during Ward’s appearance on Monday.

Ward also had a $1,000 PR bond set, was appointed a public defender, and was ordered to appear on July 6 for a preliminary hearing.
