A pair of departments responded to a structure fire on Monday evening. According to Broken Bow Fire Chief Jason Baum, Broken Bow Fire Department was dispatched to an apartment fire at 705 S. 8th Ave. in the evening hours on Monday, January 31.

Baum stated mutual aid was requested and the Merna Fire Department responded to assist. Broken Bow Fire and Rescue responded with five trucks and twenty-three personnel while Merna Fire assisted with three fire trucks and eighteen personnel. He stated no injuries resulted from the fire, but all of the residents were displaced from the complex.

Baum stated the cause of the fire was a lit cigarette that ignited nearby materials. Approximately $20,000 in damage resulted from the fire.

Baum noted the Wiessert Fire is still smoldering and likely will for several days until the area has some moisture. He said all fire crews have returned home.
