Fire Danger High Through Wednesday

The greatest concern exists north of Interstate 80.

The chance of fire remains high for the KCNI/KBBN listening area Tuesday through Wednesday.

Gusty winds, and very dry air, will combine to result in near critical fire weather conditions today. The greatest concern exists north of Interstate 80. Gusty winds and relatively dry air will result in elevated fire weather conditions again Wednesday.

A weather change is expected with a strong cold front moving through increasing the potential for rain and or snow Thursday into early Friday. Minor or light snow accumulations are possible which could reduce the chance of grass fires in the Sandhills for a few days.

In accordance with State Statute 81-520.01 There shall be a statewide open burning ban on all bonfires, outdoor rubbish fires, and fires for the purpose of clearing land.” Before any open burning is done, a permit must be obtained from the local fire chief or his/her designee on a form prescribed by the State Fire Marshal.
