A couple of felony cases were on the June 9th Custer County Court docket.
The preliminary hearing in State v. Jeffrey L. Kottwitz was continued to June 16th at 3:00. Kottwitz is charged with driving with a revoked license due to a DUI, a Class IV felony; no proof of insurance, a Class II misdemeanor; and possession of an open alcoholic container, an infraction.
The preliminary hearing for Jennifer L. Nielsen, age 50 of Broken Bow, was also continued. Nielsen’s attorney, Matt Furrow, filed a request for a continuance as the defendant is contesting the case’s probable cause. Judge Schendt granted the request and Nielsen’s preliminary hearing was rescheduled to June 23rd at 1:30. Nielsen made her first appearance in County Court in March of this year. She is charged with theft by unlawful taking ($1,500 or more), a felony, and theft by deception ($1,500 or more), also a felony.
