Family fun awaits on the “Shores of the Polish Ocean” this weekend in Loup City

Whether you have Polish roots or not, a great time awaits each year at Loup City Polish Days! This year’s celebration is Friday through Sunday the 3rd through the 5th, yet again boasting a schedule packed full of events and fun for the whole family.

Sherman County Executive Director Melissa Dush expressed how excited everyone is for the festival after the great event last year in 2021.

“Last year was great. We had a really good turnout, a lot of great comments. Family fun for everyone. That’s the thing that we’re really trying to do. People have really appreciated the different games, events, and mixture of things. Every year we try something new and if it works we keep it, if it doesn’t we cut it!” said Dush.

Whether you’re a kid that’s less than a year old or an adult, Melissa said there’s something at Polish Days for you.

“I’ve got a little 9 month old and that was one of the things, I was like, ‘Well, there’s not really a lot of things for them’, so even down to that age I’ve got a little ball pit and a water table and a little splash pad that the little ones can come and enjoy on Saturday. Friday night we have our kids carnival. So there’s even some things that those little little ones can participate in. We’ve got a craft and vendor show, a quilt show; lots of great things for all ages from little to old!”

The fun started Thursday night in Loup City with the Polish Prince and Princess contest. The fun continues Friday afternoon and into the evening. Some events include a craft and vendor fair in the community center, a quilt show, a kids carnival, a strolling magic show, laser tag, an adult comedy show, and of course a polka band and street dance.

Loup City will be bustling on Saturday as well with activities ranging from disc golf, sand volleyball, and “Golf on the Go” to an inflatable water park, a bloody mary bar, kiddie tractor pulls, and a cornhole tournament. One of the main attractions of Polish Days each year is the parade. This year’s parade will take place at 10:30 Saturday morning, themed “Family Fun on the shores of the Polish Ocean”.

“The Polish Ocean has been the Sherman Reservoir’s nickname, so that’s kind of where we went off of that since there’s so many Polish families around from Loup City to Ashton, Farwell and all through the area that kind of encompasses Sherman Reservoir. They’ve termed it as the ‘Polish Ocean’ and we’re taking a play on words there and we’re going to have a lot of fun!” said Dush.

Saturday will wrap up with rides and attractions from Rock-It Event Pros from 5 until 9 pm. The Chelewski Brothers polka band and street dance will round out the day on 7th street starting at 8pm.

The last day of Polish Days 2022, Sunday, holds great entertainment as well. You can enjoy a breakfast buffet to start the day, golf in a 3 person golf scramble, attend Polish mass at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church, kayak the “Polish Ocean”, visit the Sherman County Historical Society, check out the car show, and enjoy 3 Guys Polka in the beer garden.

Melissa invited everyone to come out this weekend, “Come on out to Loup City and enjoy the Polish capital. We have lots to do and it is fun for everyone. Family fun on the shores of the ‘Polish Ocean’!”
