Fall, holiday activities await throughout November at Broken Bow Library

The Broken Bow Library is saying “Hello” to November and the holiday season with a calendar full of events for the public to attend.

Mainstays throughout the month include chair yoga, tots and toys story time, lapsit story time, and a scavenger hunt (this month with a Thanksgiving theme). Several book clubs will continue to meet at the library this month as well, including the “Take a Break” book club, the Evening Book Club, and the Silent Book Club.

Just ahead of Thanksgiving on the 20th, a painting Thanksgiving pumpkins activity will take place from 5 PM to 7 PM, with money raised going toward maintenance of the GlowForge machine. Those interested can stop by or call the library to sign up.

A six week “Santa’s Helpers” program is underway for 3rd through 5th graders, where they created toys printed by the GlowForge machine, which are then donated to the Santa Cop program. Upcoming dates for the program are the 12th, 19th, 26th, December 3rd, and December 10th from 4 PM to 5 PM.

A book drive is underway through December 12th, benefiting the Doe’s organization who will make the books available to area families before Christmas. Donations of new or used children’s books in good condition can be taken to the library.

Speaking of books, Library Director Megan Svoboda said that they are very excited about the Twelve Books Before Christmas program, which is coming up quick.

“We wrap up 12 library books that people can enjoy for their bedtime stories with the 12 days leading up to Christmas. So we have where if people call and sign up by December 6th, so that they can pick up their books by the 11th or 12th,” explained Svoboda.

She added that she is unsure of exactly how many sets of books will be available, so sign up sooner rather than later is suggested.

An activity that has continued to be super popular at the library is the Broken Bow Express evening, set this year for Monday December 9th. “It’s just a magical night. You can decorate cookies, we have crafts and games and stories and of course Santa will be there and he does a fantastic job greeting the kids and you can get pictures with him,” Svoboda smiled, “Broken Bow Schools is nice enough to donate the Indian bus for the night.. so we can go look at lights, sing songs, and then meet with Santa. It’s just a perfect night!”

Tickets for the free event are available starting November 25th, with six bus departure times between 5:10 PM and 6:50 PM.

In November, the library will be closed on the 9th and 11th in observance of veterans day as well as the 28th through the 30th for Thanksgiving.
