Essentials to Store in Your Vehicle for Winter Weather Emergencies

CUSTER COUNTY – With winter weather in full swing, it is always better to be safe than sorry and to pack items in your car to help you in case a winter weather emergency occurs.

As always, check the weather if you are making any travel plans. There are a lot of resources such as; checking your local weather, listening to a local radio station, and using the 511 website and app on your phone. A feature with 511 is the snow plow tracker, which will give you updated looks at the road so you can see what the snow plow drivers see.

A charged phone is always good to keep on you when the weather is bad, along with a car charger. Always let people know where you are traveling so they can keep track and have an idea of where you might be. If you can pull into a rest area or a gas station, giving an update to your family is always a good idea.

From almanac.com, it is recommended to have a bag of sand to help with traction, tire chains, and a tow strap, a folding shovel, jumper cables, an ice scraper, flashlights with extra batteries, windshield cleaner, and as always, a First-aid kit.

No one plans for an emergency to happen in the winter, but it is better to be prepared and safe than stranded and sorry.
