BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow Public Information Officer gave a noon update on Friday regarding the effort to restore power to Broken Bow residents and businesses after the Thursday morning power plant explosion and fire.
Emergency response teams, including Broken Bow Ambulance Service, Broken Bow Police Department, Broken Bow Fire Department, and other city officials, are currently conducting another round of welfare checks in affected areas.
Residents using alternative heat sources are urged to ensure proper ventilation and adequate airflow to prevent the buildup of carbon monoxide (CO). CO poisoning can be life-threatening, and we encourage the use of CO detectors and proper safety measures.
The initial mobile unit deployed last night experienced a mechanical issue and could not be fully utilized. After testing, Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) sent a replacement unit, which arrived shortly after 8:00 AM this morning. Crews are actively working to deploy the new unit and restore power as soon as possible.

The Third City Christian Church at 831 Buffalo Run Rd, Broken Bow, NE 68822 remains open as an emergency shelter for residents in need of a warm and safe place to stay.
City crews continue welfare checks and are available to assist residents needing transportation to the shelter.

We urge residents to:
