The Broken Bow Police Department will be participating in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign that runs from December 11 through January 1 during the holiday season, seen as a perfect time to remind drivers of the importance of not driving while impaired.
Officers will be working extra hours, with the extra overtime being paid through a grant from the Nebraska Highway Safety Office.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in the December months of 2018-2022 there were 4,759 people killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes. In 2022 alone, 1,062 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes. Young drivers ages 21-34 accounted for the highest percentage (25%) involved in fatal crashes in December of 2022.
Broken Bow Police Chief Steve Scott said, “We participate in these campaigns in order to better protect the citizens of Broken Bow. I urge you to not drink and drive!”
