Downed powerline caused an outage this morning

A powerline is reported to have fallen near 5th Avenue across from Melham Pond in Broken Bow.

According to the Broken Bow City Administrator David Schmidt, a powerline fell and was arcing on the ground, causing a small grass fire, which was diminished as soon as the electricity was shut off.

Reportedly, when a powerline goes down, it is expected to short and trip the breaker, but for some reason, that did not occur.

Customers on the  North side of Broken Bow did not have power for a period of time Monday morning. Broken Bow Public Schools had a 10:00 a.m. late start as a result of the outage.
