Dawson County Market Beef Weigh Day Set for February 11

DAWSON COUNTY – Dawson County 4-H Market Beef Weigh and Tagging Day is Saturday, February 11. According to Dawson County Extension Assistant Mike Wolff, all 4-H members that have yet to locate their project animals should be wrapping up their search for calves in the 900-pound range as well as feeder calves. Wolff advises young exhibitors that project animals can potentially be sourced from relatives’ herds, neighbors, local barn sales, or even feedlots.

All Dawson County Beef will be tagged and weighed by February 11 to compete in the Dawson County Fair. EID tags and DNA samples will also be collected on calves destined for State Fair or Ak-Sar-Ben. All Dawson County Fair Beef will require EID tags.

The Weigh Day will be held at the Darr Feedlot, 42826 Rd 759, in Cozad.  Calves may be processed anytime between 8:00 a.m. and noon. Market Beef is mandatory, but you may bring your breeding heifers and feeder calves for EID tags and DNA samples as well. More information can be obtained by contacting the Dawson County Extension Office at (308) 324-5501.
