COZAD – Area 4-Hers took advantage of the sunny weather at the recent Beef Judging Clinic held at the Darr Feedlot Bull Development Center in Cozad. Sixteen 4-H youths and one clover kid from across the county participated.
The educational opportunity provides area 4-Hers the chance to hone lifelong skills such as decision-making and communication.
Participants judged, answered questions about, and justified their choices for four different classes of bulls. Shannon Peterson, Gothenburg, who coordinated the event, said it would not be successful without the great partnership with Darr Feedlot and the volunteers that give their time to put on the event including Mitch Ziebell who lined up the bulls.
Seventeen Dawson County 4-Hers received ribbons from the event; of those, a combined 10 earned purple ribbons across both Junior and Senior Divisions.
In the Junior Division, the purple ribbon winners were Grant and Paige Walahoski of Overton, Hailey Jensen and Cadey Wolf of Cozad, and Levi Martin and Bristol McConville of Lexington.
Blue ribbon winners in that division were Dallee and Gus Barnes of Gothenburg, Brady’s Owen Fairley, and Megan Walahoski of Overton.
Senior Division purple winners were Parker and Spencer Walahoski of Overton and Samual Winter of Cozad.
The two area blue ribbon winners in the Senior Division were Rieker Spradlin of Cozad and Gothenburg’s Abby Negley. Riggs McConville of Lexington was the area’s Clover Kid participant.
