Dawson County 4-Hers bring home honors in Weed & Grass Identification Contest

DAWSON COUNTY – 4-H youth participated in the Dawson County 4-H Weed & Grass ID contest where they had to identify several weed species, including common yarrow, blackseed plantain, and smooth brome.

Top overall winners and medal earners were Josue Casanova of Lexington, who earned a gold medal, Gabby Carawa, also of Lexington, who earned a silver medal, and Overton’s Megan Walahoski, who took home the bronze.

In the Intermediate Division, Cozad’s Mollie Spradlin earned gold, Kearney’s Maya Soria earned silver, and Paige Walahoski of Overton was awarded the bronze.

Senior Division medal winners were Rieker Spradlin of Cozad with a gold medal and Lexington’s Jaden Hunke with a silver medal.

In the Junior Division, purple ribbons were awarded to Josue Casanova, Gabby Caraway, Megan Walahoski, and Barrett Hunke.

A blue ribbon was awarded to Cozad’s Michelle McArdle. In the Intermediate Division, Mollie Spradlin, Maya Soria, and Paige Walahoski earned purple ribbons, with Blue ribbons awarded to Lexington’s Millie Pepplitsch and Terrence Bliven, and Kearney’s Melissa Montano.

In the Senior Division, a purple ribbon was awarded to Rieker Spradlin, and a blue ribbon was earned by Jaden Hunke.
