The construction project to pave the access road through Davis Creek Recreation Area near North Loup is proceeding at a rapid pace, due in part to recent mild weather.
As of this past Tuesday, approximately 1,200 feet of the total 3,300 feet of concrete roadway has been completed. NLC, LLC from York is the contractor working on the project.
Project goals include paving the existing two lane gravel access road form the recreation area entrance through the entrance to the east campground loop. Parking areas near the shower house and playground equipment will be paved and drainage improvements will also be completed in the area.
Funding for the project comes from Bureau of Reclamation Title 28 grant funds as well as the Lower Loup NRD. Title 28 grant funds were previously used for the Davis Creek campground expansion in 2017 and to build the RV dump, playgrounds, and maintenance shed.
Recreation area access will continue to be shut off for the entirety of the project. Campground reservations will also not be accepted. The adjacent Wildlife Management Area does remain open, however.
While the road closure is planned through December 31 of this year, it is likely to last longer with construction continuing as weather conditions allow.
