The access road through Davis Creek Recreation Area south of North Loup will close starting Tuesday (October 1) for a paving project, according to a press release from Lower Loup Natural Resources District (LLNRD). The project was originally planned to take place in 2023.
Campground reservations will not be accepted during the closure and vehicle access will also not be permitted during the entirety of the project, which is being timed to avoid the busy summer recreation season with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2024. LLNRD will reopen the improved access road earlier if possible.
The project includes paving the existing 2-lane gravel access road from the entrance through the exit of the east campground loop, as well as parking areas near the shower house. Drainage improvements will also be made to the 157-acre recreation area, of which the LLNRD has an ongoing 25-year lease from the Bureau of Reclamation for operation and maintenance.
Bureau of Reclamation Title 28 grant funds will be used to fund the project. The same grand fund was previously used for the 2017 Davis Creek campground expansion as well as the building of the RV dump, playgrounds, and maintenance shed.
