Custer County Treasurer reminds of approaching deadlines

April 30 marks the first half of real estate and personal property tax deadlines. The Custer County Treasurer’s Office is reminding constituents of service options that are available for the timely payment of taxes, as well as the time frame to make payments.

As in previous years, the public can make payment for the first half tax deadline in person at the office, in a Courthouse drop box or by mail. If paying by mail, postmarks must be on or before Tuesday, April 30 to avoid interest charges.

The County Treasurer’s Gworks site is another available option, which allows payments to be made by name, parcel number(s) or address. A portal fee is charged by the provider in this instance, which is Nebraska.gov. Paying by e-check results in a $3.00 fee versus the 2.49% fee applied when paying with any type of card is an option customers can take advantage of. To pay just a single fee, you are reminded to make sure all parcels are in your cart before submitting.

A drop box is located outside of the courthouse on the west side of the building with marked signs, available for use all hours. A second box is inside the building at the County Treasurer’s Office main door, which is only accessible during business hours. Both options allow the avoidance of lines and are checked throughout the day during business hours.

As construction on the east courthouse steps continues, the east doors are closed and the west doors are an open entrance.

Treasurer’s office hours are Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm. The courthouse is closed on Friday, April 26 in observance of Arbor Day.
