BROKEN BOW – The second half of the real estate and personal property tax deadline is approaching on August 31, and the Custer County Treasurer’s Office is reminding constituents of the different service options available for timely payment of taxes as well as the time frame to make payments.
With the August 31st deadline falling on a weekend and a holiday falling on the next workweek day, constituents have the additional day of Tuesday, September 3, 2024, to pay without interest being charged.
As in prior years, the public can make payment for the second half tax deadline in person at the office, by Courthouse drop box or by mail. If making payment by mail, the postmark must be on or before Tuesday, September 3, 2024, to avoid interest charges. Planning ahead to avoid late charges is recommended.
The Custer County Treasurer’s Gworks site offers an additional option. Payment can be made by name, parcel number(s) or address. Verification that the payment is being posted to the correct parcel before initiating the transaction is important, as is noting the portal fee charged by the service provider, Nebraska.gov. Prior customers have taken advantage of paying by e-check with a $3 fee instead of the 2.49% fee when paying with any type of card. If all parcels are in the payment cart before submitting payment, only one fee will be charged.
Two drop box locations are available; outside of the courthouse on the west side of the building with marked signs, open all hours, as well as inside the building at the treasurer’s office main door. The indoor box is only accessible during business hours. Both boxes are checked throughout the day during business hours.
The hours of the Custer County Treasurer’s Office are Monday through Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. The courthouse will be closed Monday, September 2 to observe Labor Day.
Those with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the office at 431 South 10th Avenue, Broken Bow, Nebraska 68822, by phone at 308-872-2921, or by fax at 308-872-3401.
