Custer County Supervisors tackle contracts, tax exemptions, and highway department upgrades

BROKEN BOW- The Custer County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with many agenda items on Tuesday morning. All supervisors were present.

Board of Equalization matters

The board approved the motor vehicle exemption for the Custer County Ag Society. They were the last organization to apply. 

Permissive Exempt Applications were discussed for the Arnold Historical Society and Boneyard Creation Museum. The board voted to approve the exemption for the Arnold Area Historical Museum, but not the guest house. The board denied the exemption for the Boneyard Creation Museum. 

Board approves contract previously denied.

County Assessor Elise Taylor came before the board for a second time regarding a contract with Central Plains Valuation LLC, a company the county has partnered with in the past for commercial property appraisals. The contract, totalling $39,494, was previously voted against with a 3-2 vote. The second time, the board voted for the contract. Voting YES: Markham, Longmore, Kleeb, Parliament. Voting NO: Fox, Gibbons.

Highway Department bids and purchases

Discussion of purchasing a new tractor truck for the highway department to replace their old one continued. The discussion ended with the approval of the purchase of a 2021 Kenworth T880 Tractor Truck for $90,000. 

A bid was awarded to Midwest Petroleum Equipment for a new fuel storage system. This was the recommended bid with a cost of $271,253.30. 

Corner Township meeting

The supervisors met as the Corner Township board after the supervisors’ meeting. They approved restricted funds authority for the year and a preliminary levy allocation request, voting to add $15,000 in capital gains funding. 

Other items from Tuesday’s meeting

  • Board renewed interlocal agreement with the Sargent Airport
  • The annual report was given by the Veterans’ Service Office.
  • Board approved agreement with Adams County Mental Health Board. The Mental Health Board is responsible for proceedings related to the involuntary commitment of individuals deemed mentally ill and dangerous.
