Custer County Supervisors April 9th Meeting Recap

The Custer County Supervisors met on Tuesday, April 9th, for their regular session. During the Board of Equalization proceedings, Custer County Assessor Elise Taylor and board members discussed tax list corrections and several county properties that may need further evaluation. Custer County Treasurer Sheri Bryant also asked the board for assistance in evaluating a Motor Vehicle Tax Exemption application by VSL LLC.

Register of Deeds Christie Trumbull provided the board with information about Register of Deeds Documents Online software, which they use to scan and enter documents into their office records. The Mips Inc. software also connects to (www.nebraskadeedsonline.us), providing free online access to Register of Deeds index information. Trumbull asked the board to consider changing to Avid software, which provides improved services and creates income that potentially generates revenue for the county. Avid is not accessible to the public for free, and Trumbull said Buffalo County uses Avid and generates enough income to cover the cost of its annual software fees. The board did not take any action, but further discussion is likely.

Chairman Charles (Chip) Blowers opened the lone bid on the lease for Pamida Lot 3A 3B in Broken Bow. The board approved Larry Coleman’s offer of $525.00 per month.

The Supervisors approved two applications to cross the right of way in rural Custer County. They accepted all the County Highway Department’s recommendations on previously submitted bids for gravel, asphalt, graders, and drag blades.

The Arnold Veterans Unit 130 is considering building a Veterans Memorial near the intersection of Nansel Oil and Mills Hardware. The Village of Arnold owns most of the tract, but a tiny portion was believed to be owned by Custer County. Following discussion, a motion was made to direct the County Attorney to issue a Quick Claim Deed to turn the small tract over to the Village of Arnold. The motion was approved, allowing Arnold to plat the lot and move forward.

The meeting adjourned at 11:08 am.
