Custer County Sheriff’s Office Participates in Make It Click Campaign

May 15, 2026, through May 31, 2026, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is working with local law enforcement for the Make It Click campaign. The NDOT Highway Safety Office has awarded grant funding to 43 law enforcement agencies across the state, including the Custer County Sheriff’s Office.

At the state level, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data, Nebraska’s seat belt usage is 80.2%, ranking 46th nationally. On the local level, a survey done by the Custer County Sheriff’s Office found that out of 100 cars, 57 were not wearing a seat belt.

The Make It Click campaign uses high-visibility enforcement to increase seat belt use and reduce crashes on Nebraska roadways. The campaign coincides with graduation and Memorial Day weekend, which some consider the unofficial start of summer.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office says the most impactful way to reduce traffic crash injuries, injury severity, and save lives is to wear a seat belt.
