The Custer County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is participating in the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s (NDOT) Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which started last Friday and goes through September 7.
The statewide campaign is aimed at reducing impaired driving and preventing crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving drivers under the influence of alcohol or other impairing substances.
CCSO is increasing their focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road using high visibility enforcement and saturation patrols.
NDOT says 38 alcohol related traffic fatalities occurred in 2025, which accounted for over 16% of all traffic fatalities in the state. Alcohol was involved in more than 15% of crashes statewide. Law enforcement agencies across the state cited more than 8,000 drivers for DUI last year.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead by designating a sober driver or making transportation arrangements rather than getting behind the wheel themselves and putting themselves, passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians at risk.
