Custer County Sheriff’s Office gives results of ‘Make it Click’ campaign

CUSTER COUNTY, Neb.— The Custer County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has released the results of their participation in the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) ‘Make it Click’ campaign, which ran from May 15 to 31. The campaign focused on increasing seatbelt usage and promoting traffic safety.

Custer County Deputies conducted 191 traffic stops during the campaign, issuing 119 citations. Of those citations, 91 were for speeding violations and 11 were for seatbelt violations. One DUI arrest was made and the driver in the DUI vehicle was clocked going 113 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. Three minor in possession (MIP) citations were made as well as two felony arrests.

A pre and post campaign 100 vehicle survey of drivers wearing and not wearing their seatbelts was also part of the campaign. In the pre campaign survey, 43 drivers were wearing their seatbelts and 57 were not. In the post campaign survey, 60 drivers were wearing their seatbelts and 40 were not, indicating an increase in seatbelt usage.

CCSO is continuing to remind motorists that wearing a seatbelt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce injuries and save lives in traffic crashes. Traffic safety laws will continue to be enforced by deputies, who will also keep encouraging all vehicle occupants to buckle up during every trip.
