The Custer County Historical Society (CCHS) is constantly working to expand the knowledge of Custer County’s past and then tell the public our area’s stories. Thanks to the photography work of legendary central Nebraska photographer Solomon D. Butcher, the picture of Custer County’s history can be expanded even more this week.

Thursday, September 5, CCHS invites the public to an open house and exhibit opening at their location on the square in Broken Bow.
Open house hours start at 1 PM Thursday and go until 5 PM with snacks and treats served. Speaker Lance Bristol will talk for about an hour starting at 6:30 PM.
Visitors to the new exhibit will find updated Solomon D. Butcher photographs featuring captions that include both area history and pioneer heritage, pointing toward where the pioneers came from prior to coming to Custer County.
According to the CCHS August newsletter, many hours were spent looking at each of the nearly 80 images spotting items that tell a bit of history that might otherwise be overlooked as daily work. Grant funding for the new display were provided by Humanities Nebraska.
The CCHS also reminds the public and area quilters to bring in their quilts for display during the CCHS Quilt Show, taking place in October.
