Custer County Foundation Raises Over $170,000 on Saturday

BROKEN BOW – The Custer County Foundation held its 18th annual gala on Saturday evening, which was by all measures a resounding success.

Over $170,000 was raised to support the foundation’s mission of improving the quality of life for all Custer County residents; how the money was raised was as varied as the number of causes the Custer County Foundation supports.

A perennial favorite, the “Heads or Tails” game, saw Faith Thomas as the last woman standing. Thomas claimed a $500 prize for her effort, though went home only with bragging rights; she generously donated the $500 to the Custer County Foundation.

KCNI/KBBN’s own Dave Birnie spontaneously wagered $1000 on an arm wrestling match; he was soundly defeated by Lindsay Cook and donated his lost purse to the foundation.

A drawing was held for a choice between a Polaris Ranger Side-by-Side sponsored by Ag-Land ATV or an $8000 travel voucher along with $1000 cash sponsored by the Custer County Foundation’s Ag Boosters. Darlene Moser won the drawing and chose the travel voucher.

One of the most remarkable, continuing aspects of the event, the foundation noted in a recent release, is that every community in Custer County was represented through both the businesses sponsoring the auction items and the guests in attendance. The foundation said that such support is a true reflection that the organization is truly county-wide.

The funds raised at the foundation’s gala will go back to assist all communities within the county in the form of grants for charitable organizations and scholarships for non-traditional students.
