Custer County DYO Seeks Volunteers for “Spirit of the Sandhills” Softball Tournament

BROKEN BOW – The “Spirit of the Sandhills” softball tournament gets underway in Broken Bow Friday, June 24 and lasts until Sunday, June 26.

The Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce is still looking for volunteers to fill all manner of roles for the tournament, including helping prepare the field between games, gate ticket and money collectors, scoreboard keepers, and more.

The event is an enormous economic boon to the city, the Chamber said in a statement, as the tournament this year alone will bring in between 37 and 40 teams, or over 430 softball players and their families for the weekend. Motels, hotels, campgrounds, and bed and breakfasts are booked to capacity.

Training will be provided for all volunteers, and the Chamber assures anyone wary of the difficulty of the labor that “field prep is easy with enough hands.”

Volunteering with the tournament, according to the Chamber, is an excellent way to earn community service hours, and an even better way to help Broken Bow shine as a hub of softball in Nebraska.
