Custer County District Court was in session on Thursday, March 20th with Judge Karin Noakes presiding.
Joshua D. Stiebritz, age 45 of Broken Bow, appeared for arraignments in two separate criminal cases. The first case stems from an arrest on November 16, 2024, when the defendant was charged with two Class IV felonies—possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and possession of lisdexamfetamine. Stiebritz pleaded not guilty to both charges. The second case against the defendant is from an arrest on January 3, 2025. In that case, Stiebritz was charged with possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, a Class IV felony; driving under suspension, a Class III misdemeanor; no operator’s license, a Class III misdemeanor; use of a handheld wireless communication device and possession of drug paraphernalia, both infractions. Stiebritz pleaded not guilty to all five counts and Judge Noakes set a jury trial in both cases for June 9, 2025. .
In State v. Anthony E. Holmes, a request for a continuance by defense attorney Matthew Furrow was denied. Judge Noakes issued a bench warrant for Holmes, revoked his $10,000 personal recognizance bond, and set a new bond at $50,000 with a 10% privilege. Holmes, age 55 of Lexington, is charged with three counts—flight to avoid arrest, a Class IV felony; willful reckless driving, a Class III misdemeanor; and speeding 98 in a 65 mph zone, an infraction.
Appearing for her arraignment was Airen J. Popham, age 41 of Oconto. Popham is charged with possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, a Class IV felony. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and a jury trial is set for June 9, 2025.
