Custer County Court was in session on Monday, April 20th.
In court for his first appearance was Austin R. Welty, age 33 of Broken Bow. Welty faces five counts including a Class 3A felony charge of terroristic threats, as well as four misdemeanor charges–unauthorized use of a propelled vehicle (joyriding), criminal mischief for losses between $1,500-5,000, leaving the scene of an accident with failure to furnish information, and criminal mischief for losses less than $500. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on April 5th. Matt Furrow was appointed attorney for the defendant and a preliminary hearing was set for May 4th at 3:00 p.m. A bond of $100,000 with 10% privilege was continued. Welty was remanded to the custody of law enforcement.
Also making a first appearance in Custer County Court was Carolyn R. Comeau, age 31 of Sargent. As a result of an arrest on April 18th, Comeau is charged with 3rd degree domestic assault causing bodily injury (subsequent offense), a Class 3A felony. A bond hearing was held in the case and a personal recognizance bond of $1,000 was set. The defendant will appear for a preliminary hearing on May 4th at 3:00 p.m.
