Custer County Court was held on Monday, December 9th

Several felony cases were on the Custer County Court docket on Monday, December 9th.

John P. Brouillette, age 32 of Broken Bow, made his first appearance on three charges: Count I, assault by strangulation, a Class IIIA felony; Count II, 3rd degree domestic assault, a Class I misdemeanor; and Count III, disturbing the peace, a Class III misdemeanor. The defendant was arrested after an alleged incident occurred in Broken Bow on December 8th. Judge Tami Schendt set bond at $10,000 with a 10% privilege.

Appearing in court for preliminary hearings on Monday were four Broken Bow residents who were arraigned November 18th on drug-related charges. Joshua Stiebritz, age 45, is charged with two counts of possession of controlled substances, both Class IV felonies. James Thorpe, age 35, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class IV felony, and being a habitual criminal. Francisca Miller, age 38, faces two counts of possession of controlled substances, Class IV felonies. And, Alexxis R. Shimko, age 28, was charged with four counts of possession of controlled substances, all Class IV felonies. The preliminary hearings for Thorpe, Miller and Shimko were continued until January 13, 2025, and Stiebritz will appear on February 10, 2025 for his preliminary hearing.

The preliminary hearing for Thomas S. Thies, age 35 of Ansley, was continued until January 13, 2025. Thies is charged with use of a deadly weapon and child abuse, both felonies. William R. Baxter, age 45 of Broken Bow, was arraigned for criminal nonsupport, a Class IV felony. His preliminary hearing is also set for January 13, 2025.
