Custer County Court Recap for Monday, April 6th

Custer County Court was in session on Monday, April 6, 2026, with Judge Tami Schendt presiding.

Johnnie F. Mason, age 51 of Broken Bow, was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on earlier charges of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and tampering with evidence, both Class IV felonies. However, on March 30th, while out on bond, Mason was arrested and again charged with possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. Matt Furrow had previously been appointed by the court as Mason’s attorney, but asked the court to withdraw that appointment due to a conflict. Chris Wickham was appointed to represent the defendant in both cases and preliminary hearings were set for April 20th. A request to reduce Mason’s bond of $50,000 with 10% privilege was denied by Judge Schendt and the defendant was remanded to the custody of the Custer County Sheriff.

In court for arraignment was Richard E. Brass, Jr, age 32 of Broken Bow. On March 30th, Brass was charged with possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, a Class IV felony. Matt Furrow was appointed as counsel for Brass. The defendant waived his right to a preliminary hearing and the case was bound over to Custer County District Court for arraignment on April 23rd. Brass was remanded back to the custody of the Sheriff.

Donielle N. Hopkins, age 42 of Broken Bow, appeared for arraignment. Gary Peterson was appointed as her attorney. Hopkins is also charged with  possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, a Class IV felony, stemming from an arrest on March 30th.  A personal recognizance bond of $1,000 was set by the judge.
