Custer County Court News from October 28th

Several felony criminal cases came before Judge Tami Schendt in Custer County Court on Monday, October 28th.

Adam J. Schaefer, age 30 of Broken Bow, appeared and waived his right to a preliminary hearing. His case was bound over to Custer County District Court for an arraignment to be held on December 19, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. Schaefer is charged with intentional child abuse resulting in injury, a Class II felony, and false reporting, a Class I misdemeanor. He was remanded back to the custody of the Custer County Sheriff.

Carsen Wilson, age 19 of Merna, also appeared and waived his right to a preliminary hearing. Wilson is charged with 15 felony counts–one count of use of a firearm to commit a felony, three counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of attempted first degree murder, two counts of first degree assault, possession of a stolen firearm, one count of attempted first degree domestic assault, two counts of terroristic threats, and two counts of stalking. He was bound over to Custer County District Court for an arraignment on November 7th at 9:30 a.m. and was remanded back to the custody of the Custer County Sheriff.

Making his first appearance before the court was Caleb D. Grant, age 19 of Ansley. He is charged with four counts: 1st degree assault, a Class IIA felony; making terroristic threats, a Class IIIA felony; 3rd degree assault, a Class I misdemeanor; and disturbing the peace, a Class III misdemeanor. A preliminary hearing on the charges was set for November 18th at 2:30. A bond review was also held and after hearing from the State and from Matthew Furrow, the defendant’s attorney, Judge Schendt denied a request to reduce the bond. Grant remains in County Jail on a $75,000 bond with 10% privilege.

Also appearing in County Court was Logan Brown, age 30 of Broken Bow. Brown’s preliminary hearing was rescheduled to January 6, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
