Custer County Court News from Monday, June 2nd

Custer County Court was held on Monday, June 2nd, with Judge Tami Schendt presiding.

Robert H. Walker, Sr., age 39 of Broken Bow, appeared for his preliminary hearing on a charge of child abuse, a Class IIIA felony. The State announced a plea agreement had been reached to an amended charge of child abuse, a Class I misdemeanor. Walker pleaded no contest to the amended charge and Judge Schendt found him guilty. A presentence investigation was ordered, bond was continued, and sentencing was set for August 18th.

William R. Baxter, age 46 of Broken Bow, also appeared for a preliminary hearing. In December 2024, Baxter was arraigned for criminal nonsupport, a Class IV felony. In court on Monday, the State announced a plea agreement had been reached and Baxter pleaded no contest to the reduced charge, a Class II misdemeanor. The defendant pleaded no contest to the amended charge of criminal non-support and he was placed on administrative probation for one year.

Also in County Court on Monday was Casey M. Hall, age 47 of Ravenna. In May, Hall was charged with ten felony counts of possession of child pornography. Hall’s attorney, Matt Furrow, requested a continuation of the preliminary hearing as the defendant is contesting the case’s probable cause. Judge Schendt granted the request and Hall’s preliminary hearing was rescheduled to June 23rd.
