Custer County Clerk Receives Recall Petitions for Sargent School Board Members

In July of 2023, an effort was mounted by some disgruntled voters in the Sargent Public School District to recall board of education members Laura Kipp, Tammera Moody, Loyd Pointer, and Marty Riddle. The effort started after the board voted earlier this year not to retain Cory Grint as principal for the 2023-2024 school year.

Each recall petition required at least 95 signatures of registered voters in the Sargent School District and those signatures were submitted to the Custer County Clerk’s Office on Friday, August 26th. The County Clerk’s Office now has 15 business days to verify if enough valid signatures were collected.

If enough signatures are verified, the Clerk’s Office will notify the elected officials being recalled, as well as the Sargent School District. According to the Custer County Election Clerk, the school district will then have 21 days to notify the County Clerk’s Office about a date for the recall election. That election has to be held at least 50 days after the school district is notified that enough valid signatures were obtained on the recall petitions.
