Council approves Rotary use of Municipal Building and library policies at Tuesday meeting

BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow City Council held its last meeting of the month Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building’s Auditorium. Councilman Baltz was absent but excused.

The council approved the consent agenda and turned the floor over to Deb McCaslin of the Broken Bow Area Rotary, who asked for the council’s support of the Truckers Against Trafficking program through the use of the city’s Municipal Building.

McCaslin plans to have the Truckers Against Trafficking trailer parked on the north side of the Municipal Building, which would close off at least half the street. McCaslin also proposed that HotMeals USA’s food truck be directly out in front of the building for at least the Sunday of the 3-day stint.

The council approved the proposal unanimously, with Mayor Rod Sonnichsen voicing particular support.

“I would like to see a whole lot more people educated on this. Anybody that has kids knows kids, you need to be aware of this.”

The Truckers Against Trafficking trailer is scheduled to arrive in Broken Bow from August 27 through August 29.

The council also approved the changes to the Broken Bow Public Library’s policies; the library undergoes revisions to maintain its gold accreditation from the state.

Newly appointed City Treasurer Jennifer Waterhouse was given the keys to the city’s safety deposit box and the pen to the city’s bank accounts, and the council set August 24 at noon as the budget workshop date. The meeting adjourned at 6:23 p.m., with the next scheduled for August 8.
