City Council ups RV Park prices, approves appointments

BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow City Council held its regular meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Municipal Building’s auditorium; all members were present.

Streets and Parks’ Darren Martin approached the council regarding the RV Park’s prices in anticipation of the busy summer season; according to Martin’s research, the only outdated thing about Broken Bow’s park is how much it costs to stay there.

“I did some research with Game and Parks, and some of these campgrounds around the state are $30 to $35 a night, and that’s just for electricity and water. At ours, you’ve got water, sewer, electricity, and we’ve also got Wi-Fi for our stayers.”

Martin then proposed an increase in the daily price at the park to $35, an elimination of a weekly stay price, and a jump to $750 for summer seasonal monthly stays, up from $500. For winter stays, which span October 1 through March 31, the price would move to $600. The changes were approved unanimously.

Mayor Rod Sonnichsen reminded all present of the upcoming citywide cleanup; this year, he says, while household chemicals will not be accepted, motor oil will be.

“The Street Department says that they will have an oil burner, so this year they will be collecting motor oil.”

A separate cleanup, the mayor said, will be held in the fall to collect and properly dispose of various chemicals.

The council closed bidding for repairs on the Municipal Building roof and opened the 3 received bids: one from Weathercraft Roofing of Broken Bow, one Tri-Cities Roofing and Sheet Metal of Grand Island, and one from Strong 1, LLC of Fremont. No decision regarding the bids was made at the meeting.

Council President David Schmidt was unanimously approved to become the new City Administrator; he will assume that role on April 27.

The annual TIF report for 2022 was approved unanimously, as was the appointment of James Callaway to the Airport Authority; his term will run to December 2028. Jacob Holcomb was unanimously approved as the new Deputy Clerk, as well. The meeting adjourned at 6:19 p.m.
