City Council Hold Last Meeting in January

The Broken Bow City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, January 24th. All Council members were present with the exception of Chris Myers.

The consent agenda was approved, with the exception of a claim to the Nebraska Department of Transportation in the amount of $34,242 for the full purchase price of the handi bus.  According to Council President Dave Schmidt, postponing this until the next Council meeting will allow them to explore other possible avenues.

Casey Doggett, representing Doggett Tree Service, addressed the Council requesting access to the tree dump outside of regular hours in order to accommodate his customers’ needs. Insurance and permit requirements will be researched before addressing the request.

City Administrator Dan Knoell provided an update on the status of snow removal. He emphasized the exceptional work being done by the city employees, who have worked very long hours. Barring any problems, it is anticipated that snow removal from the 40 miles of city streets will be completed by the end of the week.

Under New Business, the Council approved the appointment of Megan Linn as City Treasurer and the appointment of Madison Neely as the Deputy Clerk.

Ordinance 1265, amending the 2022-2023 wages was approved. The Council also approved the appointment of Paul Holland to the Housing Authority Board with a term ending February of 2028 and the appointment of Rachel Schmidt to the Library Board with a term ending February 2026.

A Public Hearing was held on Ordinance 1266 that would replat several acres in the city with the intent of creating a second subdivision, consisting of 32 housing lots, in Eagle Crest. The Council did not waive the three readings of the ordinance.
