The City of Broken Bow has a budget hearing and City Council meeting planned for tonight. The budget hearing will start at 4:30 PM, with the council meeting to follow upon its adjournment.
A hearing on the 2026-2027 appropriation bill is the lone ‘new business’ item on the budget hearing agenda.

Tonight’s City Council agenda could certainly be described as ‘lengthy’ in comparison to a majority of meetings.
Other communication items include an administrative update, as well as a discussion on ordinance 1323, which speaks to livestock and poultry in town.
In old business, Community Development Block Grant discussions will continue. Specifically, the granting of permission for the signing and execution of documents that will allow the city to accept and implement the award of the funds.
The data center ordinance that made its way through planning and now several discussions and public input opportunities will be up for one last public hearing before it is considered for approval by council.
New business items tonight will kick off with a public hearing, potential waiving of three readings, and consideration of ordinance 1318 (the 2026-2027 appropriation bill).
A public hearing will also take place before city council considers approval of the final property tax request for 2026-2027. The total assessed value of property is 3.62% higher than when assessed last year.
Ordinance 1319 is on tonight’s council agenda, which would amend wages for the mayor as well as city council members. If approved, the mayor would be paid $10,000 annually, the council president would be paid $6,000 annually, and city council members would be paid $5,000 annually. Since 2022, the mayor has been paid $7,500 annually while council members were paid $3,500. The council president getting a different rate of pay would be a new addition if approved.
Ordinance 1320 is on the agenda tonight which would initiate a Utilities Clerk title change to Utility Clerk and Services Coordinator and add the position of City Administrative Assistant.
Ordinance 1321, the 2026-2027 wage ordinance would set wages for positions with the city (see picture).
The one and six year street plans will be considered for approval following the opportunity for the public to speak during another public hearing spot on the agenda (see pictures).
A bank account will be considered for closing at Bruning Bank during tonight’s meeting.
The last item on the agenda is a discussion on a permanent sanitary sewer easement and temporary construction easement being granted by Gerald Pirnie. The agreement would allow extension of the city’s sanitary sewer.
