Bruning Bank hosting Lunch & Learn in Broken Bow, RSVP by Friday

According to the Federal Trade Commission, consumers last year reported losing more than $12.5 billion to fraud, representing a 25% increase over the prior year. Bruning Bank in Broken Bow hopes to help reduce that number in 2025 by hosing a fraud education and prevention ‘Lunch & Learn’ on Tuesday (March 25).

Tuesday’s event is set to take place from 11:45 until 1 PM at the Veteran’s Memorial building on 1st Avenue in Broken Bow. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to RSVP by this Friday to assist in getting a count for food.

Attendees will learn about practical tips and strategies for identifying, preventing, and protecting against fraud in the business and individual world. Both Ryan Sothan from the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office and staff from Bruning Bank will be presenting.

Investment scams topped all other scam loss categories in 2024, with $5.7 billion lost. The second highest reported loss came from imposter scams at $2.95 billion lost. Last year, consumers reported losing more money to scams where they paid with bank transfers or cryptocurrency than all other payment methods combined.
