Broken Youth Sports Club to Host Fundraiser July 26th

The Broken Bow Youth Sports Club will be hosting a fundraiser on Friday July 26th in downtown Broken Bow.  The Broken Bow Youth Sports Club is a newly formed non profit organization to help meet the financial needs of youth who want to participate in athletics.  Sports Club board member Ashley Peters visited with KCNI/KBBN radio and shared how the group was formed and the mission behind the organization.

“A group of us got together this winter and were talking about lower participation rates in the youth and sports activities and the concerns over that.  Trying to figure out how we can get more kids involved.  A big thing we talked about was cost.  It can be difficult for some families to justify that cost especially in the inflationary markets that we’re dealing with.  That was our big focus.  Finding a way we could raise money so that is not a reason for kids not to participate.  Our focus is raising funds.  We will have an application process.  If elementary through high school (age) want to participate in a sports camp or play (sports) completely, we want to figure out a way to cover costs associated including whatever equipment (might be needed).”

Peters shared the plans of the sports club in determining the disbursement of funds to assist in covering the possible financial burden that one may encounter when wishing to participate in youth sports.

“There is a little bit of an application process.  It’s really just a questionnaire.  Pretty basic, it’s really just a matter of gauging the child’s interest in it and why they want to do this sport.  Our board members will discus  these and make the approval.  It is all confidential.  No one will know outside of our board who is applying…”

The fundraiser will take place in downtown Broken Bow around Legends Bar and Grill.  The event will start at 5:30 and feature a street beer garden and yard games for kids and families.  A meal deal of a hot dog, baked beans, and chips will be available for a cost of $8.  The fundraiser will also include a ball drop to take place around 8 p.m.  Tickets for the ball drop are $25 each with prizes awarded to the six closest to the bullseye.  A maximum of 200 tickets will be sold and can be purchased by contacting any board member (Ryan Wetovick, Jason Rynearson, Jeff Denson, Skylar Morris, Breanna Kaup, or Ashley Peters), at RT Ace Hardware or Legends Bar and Grill in Broken Bow.

Donations to the Broken Bow Youth Sports Club can also be made through the Custer County Foundation.
