There was no shortage of breakfast food for lunch and dinner as the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3576 hosted another successful President’s Day Pancake Ham and Egg Benefit on Monday, February 16.

The annual pancake feed held at the Broken Bow Municipal Building benefits the VFW Post’s scholarship fund. According to Post Commander Dell Moninger, around 350 meals were served throughout the day, raising enough money to more than cover the $3000 in scholarships that the organization awards each year to help support the academic future of deserving students.

Four veterans were honored during the evening meal. Families and friends gathered to present Quilts of Valor to their loved ones. The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. The veterans honored were:

  • Patrick Horn served in the United States Army National Guard starting in 1976, and was honorably discharged in 2004 at the rank of Sergeant First Class. Horn served in Bosnia in 2003 at Forward Operating Base Morgan.
  • Raymond Arehart served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966, including service in Vietnam. Arehart was Honorably Discharged in 1966 with a rank of Specialist 4th Class.
  • Monte (Bud) Clark served in the United States Army National Guard from 1976 to 1997. Clark served during the Cold War and the Gulf War. Clark retired from the Army at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
  • Keith Moninger served in the United States Army from June 1969 to December 1970, with service in Vietnam. Moninger was Honorably discharged in December of 1970 at the grade of E5.

For their service during the Vietnam era, Arehart and Moninger were awarded Vietnam era commemorative pins. The pins are awarded to veterans who served during the Vietnam era from 1955-1975 in remembrance of the 2025 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam war.

Remembering the past and supporting the future, the President’s Day Pancake, Ham and Egg Benefit continues a tradition of community service for the Broken Bow Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3576.
