Broken Bow to discuss floodplain grant, library roof leak in special meeting Thursday

The special meeting that Broken Bow Deputy Clerk Jacob Holcomb said was a possibility is now a reality. Scheduled for noon on Thursday (April 10) at the municipal building, the agenda holds a discussion of the hazard mitigation grant program that Holcomb mentioned Tuesday night as well as roof repairs at the library.

The pursuit of the $250,000 hazard mitigation grant would involve a financial commitment of 25% of the project cost, or $62,500. The grant would be used to conduct a floodplain scoping project to ‘enhance community safety and resilience against flooding’ according to the resolution.

Broken Bow City Administrator David Schmidt described the grant as a ‘Spend $62,500 to receive $250,000’ situation at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

A reallocation of budgeted funds will also be up for discussion by council on Thursday. The resolution indicates a movement of funds from the municipal building improvements account to fund repairs to Broken Bow’s library roof.

The repairs have been identified as requiring immediate repair and the resolution states the project is not expected to exceed a cost of $40,000.

Thursday’s meeting is open to the public.
