Broken Bow School Board Renews Superintendent Contract

BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow School Board held its monthly meeting on Monday evening in the Board Room in the Broken Bow High School.

The meeting kicked off at 6:00 p.m. with the approval of minutes and board reports as well as the Treasure’s report given by J.B. Atkins. Atkins stated that in terms of overall revenue, they are down.

2:04-2:35 “In terms of overall revenue, we are down just a tick. Expidentures are up a couple hundred thousand. The revenue side of it, we never really know. That thing just bounces around,” said Atkins.

School board officers who were reelected will remain the same with President Tom Osmond, Vice President Pam Holcomb, and Treasurer JB Atkins.

JB Atkins and Mary Shaw both stated that they would not be running for school board. Both Atkins and Shaw are going on their eighth year on the board.

A construction meeting will take place on February 5. The board approved paying a bill to Wilking Architectire Design Planning LLC for $172,099.20  for the start of the remodel of the school.

Under district accolades, Darren Tobey stated that the South Western Conference basketball will begin next week. Broken Bow will also host the Speech Meet this Saturday and the Indian’s Savings account has been growing each week.

The contract for Superintendent Darren Tobey was renewed for a three-year term starting on July 1, 2024, and expiring on June 20, 2027, in the amount of $177,117 for contract years 2024-2025 and $179,773 for contract years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027. The 2026-2027 contract will be renegotiated in the future.

Resignations for fifth-grade teacher Amanda Gibbons and Elementary Principal Justin Peterson were approved.
