The Broken Bow Board of Education held its monthly meeting on Monday, August 19th, 2024, at the North Park School. School Board President Tom Osmond called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. All members were present.
The Board approved the verification of publication and notification and the minutes of the previous meeting. School Board Treasurer J.B. Atkins provided an overview of the school’s financials at the end of July and the Board unanimously approved the Treasurer’s report.
Superintendent Darren Tobey said new district staff will report on August 20th, all staff will report on August 21st, and students will start the school year on Tuesday, September 3rd. Under Administrator Comments, Tobey provided an update on the school’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) coalition team that consists of all district administrators and three elementary teachers. The teachers on the team were selected through an application process that required a recommendation from another teacher. The team held meetings over the summer and chose “Grow Together” as their new slogan. The team also determined three district collective commitments and goals toward achieving those commitments. The collective commitments are 1) collaborative groups, 2) instruction, and 3) learning culture and safety with focus on students and staff attendance, behavior, and academics. Individual teams from each building will work with the coalition team and are also in place.
Under Discussion and Action Items, the Board approved the Student Handbook with changes made during the recent work session and approved the Nondiscrimination and Transportation Policy updates. The Board also approved an amendment to the Special Building Fund that allows payment of expenses associated with the building project.
The next work session meeting will be September 3 at 12:00 noon at the Broken Bow Public Library. September’s regular meeting will be held on Monday, September 16th at 6:00 p.m. at the Broken Bow Public Library.
