Broken Bow School Board Meeting Recap

BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow School Board held its once-a-month meetings on Monday night. All members were present.

To begin, the minutes of the previous board meeting were approved.

J.B. Atkins gave the treasure report and stated that the report might look funky in the coming months until the bond money comes in.

“The budget is going to be really tough to keep track of because of these payments we are going to be making. So it’s going to look a lot higher until we get reimbursed for that filed bond.

The bond payments are tentatively coming out of the general fund until the bond money comes in, then the board will reimburse the general fund with the bond money. At the end of the fiscal year, everything will align.

Up next was the district accolades in which Mr. Tobey said that the speech team are champions, coach Schaaf is up for National Coach of the Year,  that wrestling was district champions and placed third at state duels and seven wrestlers will be heading to state. FBLA was runner-up this last week in Kearney and state cheerleading is also this Friday.

The hire of Cecilia Nunez was approved as was the resignation of Bianca Witt.

The district report card discussion showed that there are 32 more kids that attend Broken Bow Public Schools.

The Board approved the purchase of a new van that the state will reimburse 80% of.  The original cost was $47,000 for a used 2023 Ford/Transit Connect Van. This van is handicapped-accessible.

J.B. Atkins and Mary Shaw stated that they will not be filing for re-election.

The next board meeting will be on Monday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room in the Broken Bow High School.
