Broken Bow School Board Approves Girls Wrestling

The Broken Bow School Board met on Monday, March 18th in the Board Room of the High School. All members were present except J.B. Atkins whose absence was excused. Girls wrestling was on the agenda under discussion and action items and the board seemed determined to decide on the issue Monday evening. Girls’ wrestling has become more popular in the past few years and many High Schools are adding it to their programs. Girls can no longer practice or compete with boys so the board members discussed the feasibility of providing resources to support a new sports activity. Tim Chancellor made a motion to add Girls High School Wrestling to the program for the 2024-2025 and the 2025- 2026 school years. The motion also included an evaluation of the program in March of 2026 and will require a vote by the board to continue the program. After further discussion, the motion was unanimously approved.

In other action items, the Board unanimously accepted the resignations of Kristen Benjamin, Assessment Coordinator and Middle School teacher; McKenna Webel, Middle School Language Arts teacher; Callie Zutavern, Middle/High School Math teacher, Kylie Eggleston, Middle/High School Band teacher; and Rilee Daffer, 4th grade teacher. The Board then approved contracts for the following new teachers: Marissa Campbell, Middle School English; Jenna Evans, Kindergarten; Aurora Gonzales, High School English; and Mathia Shumaker, Elementary Guidance Counselor. Superintendent Tobey informed the Board that the only positions left to fill for the 2024-25 school year are for 1st and 4th-grade teachers and a band instructor.

The Board approved a Policy Review and a fiber repair project before adjourning.

The next meeting for the Broken Bow School Board will be on Monday,
