BROKEN BOW— First responders were called to a structure fire on the 1300 Block of South 6th Avenue in Broken Bow in the 3 AM hour on Monday (December 1). Jeffery A. Jones of Broken Bow was found deceased inside the residence.
The first responder on scene, a Broken Bow Police Officer, found the home fully engulfed in flames and immediately requested the Broken Bow Volunteer Fire Department before attempting to enter the home to check for occupants. The intensity and advanced stage of the fire didn’t allow the officer to enter the structure, however.
The Broken Bow Volunteer Fire Department responded with 18 personnel and two apparatus alongside the Broken Bow Ambulance Service, Merna Volunteer Fire Department, Black Hills Energy, and the City of Broken Bow Utilities and Streets Departments each with personnel and equipment.
Once the fire was suppressed, responders located a deceased individual inside, identified as Jones. Fire and EMS units cleared the scene at approximately 9:10 AM.
The Broken Bow Fire Department and Broken Bow Police Department both extended their gratitude to all who helped at the scene with assistance and coordinated response.
The Nebraska State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the fire.
