Several teams competed at NSAA district speech meets on Monday, working to punch their ticket to state held March 27 and 28 in Kearney.
Broken Bow competed in the B-5 event at Aurora, while Anselmo-Merna, Burwell, Loup City, and Sumner-Eddyville-Miller were area schools competing at the D1-4 at Riverside.
Broken Bow‘s Chase Johnson and Maggie Peterson placed third in duet acting to make it to state. As an individual in informative speaking Madden Kleeb came in second, also good enough to head to state. Maggie Peterson will also compete at state in persuasive speaking, where she was crowned district champion.

Several students from the area achieved a trip to state at the D1-4 meet by placing in the top three.
Dylan Rademacher of team district runner-up Loup City seized the district title in entertainment speaking. Kaily Kurtzhals came in in third place in the same competition. Grace Augustyn and Morgan Rademacher, also of Loup City, placed third in duet acting. Ozzy Cintron and Dutch Miller are two more Loup City competitors who are going to state, placing second and third respectively in extemporaneous speaking. Domanik Barnes, Dutch Miller, and Kolton Friesen came in third in OID to round out Loup City’s state competitors.

For Burwell, Jordee Johnston came in third in informative speaking to snag a spot at state next week. Jeslynn Dvorak also took home a bronze medal in oral interpretation of serious prose to make it to state. Mikayla William will represent Burwell at the unified speech state exhibition performing her humorous speech.

Tuesday’s area participants are Loup County, Sandhills, and Sargent at the D2-3 district event at Stuart.
