The Broken Bow FFA chapter will provide free meals to area farmers during harvest, offering a way to give back to the ag community while helping producers make the most of their time in the field.
The ‘Harvest Meals’ program is scheduled for this Saturday from 11 AM to 2 PM. FFA members will make and deliver lunches directly to farmers working in the fields so they don’t have to leave their equipment and take time away from harvesting.
Broken Bow FFA members Brent Forster and Caleb Wiiest discussed the program during a recent appearance on the Get Up & Go Breakfast Show.
The two said the meal will include burgers, chips, fruit, water and a drink mix packet. Homemade desserts will also be available.
Forster said the program is a way for FFA members to show their appreciation.
“The farmers, they just do so much for us, and our FFA just thought of a way we could give back to them and make those connections with them,” Forster said.
Farmers can request delivery by completing an online form accessible through a QR code on the event’s poster that can be found several places online and inside local businesses.
Wiiest said delivering meals directly to the fields can help farmers keep working during a busy time of the year.
“It really speeds up the process, they can get more acres done, get more harvested, especially with the weather we’ve been having,” Wiiest said.
The program is in its second year. Forster said the response last year was positive, with many expressing appreciation for the food and the effort.
