BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow Elks Lodge #1688 winter coat drive will come to a close soon. As the final day approaches, a few members met with Custer County Foundation Executive Director Rilee Daffer at Community Connection in Broken Bow to celebrate the Elks being awarded a grant of $700.

Paul Loy told KCNI/KBBN that the grant was used to purchase 33 kids coats, which were a need since donations of kids coats are typically lower in number than that of adult sizes.

The Elks in attendance said that the drive has brought in over 200 coat donations so far, with more set to be delivered. The group also has some more shopping to do utilizing some $600 received in monetary donations. The Elks coat drive has brought in over 2,400 coats in its ten years of existence.

The Elks Lodge will continue to accept donations through January 2nd of 2025. After donations are taken to the Custer County Chief offices, they are made available at no cost to the public at Community Connection on the North side of the Broken Bow square. Donations accepted in addition to coats include scarves, caps, gloves, socks, snow pants, boots/shoes, and monetary gifts.
